A Holy Hill on the Saskatchewan Prairie

A century of prayer where the prairie meets the sky

Welcome

The Hill of the Far View

Rising gently above the prairie near Carmel, Saskatchewan, this modest hill has drawn people for far longer than a hundred years. The Cree knew it as spathanaw watchi — the hill of the far view — long before the shrine was built. Since 1922 it has been a place of pilgrimage: Stations of the Cross climb its western slope, a small stone chapel stands at the summit, and an Italian marble statue of Our Lady has watched over it since 1928.

This website is a personal record of that history — the hill, the families who cared for it, the cemetery where generations rest, and the pilgrimages that have marked each July for a century.
